What Changes a Used Camera's Price on This Site (and What Does Not)
Updated: 10 Oct 2026 · Camera Sell Online
The selling price on Camera Sell Online is not typed in by a person while you wait. It is built from your answers on five screens, in a fixed order, and the number appears the moment the OTP is confirmed. That means you can work out in advance which answers move the number, which ones do not, and what to have on the table before you start. This page walks through the screens in the order you meet them and says, for each one, what it adds to the quote and what it never asks.
The order of the screens
- Model page. You land on the page for your brand and model. The number shown there is an estimate for the body only; nothing you own has been counted yet.
- Get Exact Value. The button that starts the questions.
- Choose Lenses. The lenses linked to your model. Tick only the ones you will hand over.
- Original accessories. Five tick boxes: Original Bag, Original Battery, Original Bill, Original Box, Original Charger.
- Age bracket. 1 To 6 Months, 6 To 18 Months, 18 To 24 Months or Above 24 Months, counted from the invoice date.
- Condition. One of four grade cards: Flawless, Good, Average, Below Average.
- OTP, then the selling price. The number on this last screen is the one that is paid at pickup when the camera matches your answers.
Every screen after the first one changes the number. The sections below take them one at a time.
Lenses: separate lines, not a bonus
A lens is never folded into the body price on this site. Each lens you tick on the Choose Lenses screen is quoted from its own row and added to the total as its own line, so a body with two lenses produces three lines and one total. The list shows the lenses linked to your model; a kit zoom is a lens like any other and belongs on that screen if it is going with the body. A lens that is not in the list is not lost: leave it unticked, finish the questions for the body, and send the lens name on WhatsApp or mention it on the call so the team can quote it by hand. The body price you saw on screen does not change because a lens was quoted separately later.
Original accessories: five fixed additions
Each of the five original items adds a fixed amount to the quote when ticked; an unticked item simply does not add its amount. Nothing is subtracted from the body for a missing item, so the honest way to read this screen is "what do I still have", not "what am I losing". "Original" means the item that came in the retail box with this camera: a charger bought later, a spare battery, a courier carton or a bag from another kit do not qualify. The bill is the purchase invoice; an order confirmation email is not the same thing, and if that is all you have, leave the box unticked and say so on the call. Models that shipped with a USB cable and wall adapter instead of a separate charger are a known case: for those the cable and adapter are the original charger.
Age bracket: counted from the invoice, not the launch year
The bracket is about your camera, not the model. A body launched years ago but bought new last winter sits in a young bracket; a body from the latest generation bought from a friend two years ago sits in an older one. The 1 To 6 Months bracket adds the most, and each later bracket adds less, with Above 24 Months adding the least. Pick the bracket you can support with the invoice date, because the invoice is one of the original items and the two are compared at pickup. If you have no invoice and are not sure, choose the older bracket; an honest answer here protects the number on the last screen.
Condition grade: the base of the quote
The grade card sets the base of the quote, and every other screen builds on it. The four cards carry their whole definition in four short lines each, repeated word for word in camera condition grades explained; there is no hidden checklist behind them. Two things are worth knowing before you choose. First, the grade describes how the body looks and wears, not what it is worth to you or how good the pictures were. Second, the site's own FAQ says that dents and scratches can reduce the resale value depending on their severity, so a mark you can feel with a fingernail is the kind of thing that moves a card down. Clean the camera under a lamp, then pick the card that still fits.
What does not change the number
- Colour or finish. Black, silver or a limited edition of the same model is quoted from the same row.
- Firmware, settings and custom buttons. Not part of any question.
- Shutter count or recording hours. Not asked on any screen; wear is judged from the body itself. The shutter count guide explains why.
- Straps, caps, filters, hoods, grips, cages, extra batteries, third-party chargers. None of these has a row. They are not priced on screen, and they are not deducted either; mention them on the call if you want the team to take them, and they are looked at when the camera is collected.
- Where you live. The same answers give the same number on every city page of this site.
- How many times you check. The site does not reward or penalise repeat visits. The FAQ does note that prices follow the current market value and can change between visits, so a number seen last month is not a promise for today; the number on the screen at the time of the OTP is the one that counts.
Before you tap Get Exact Value
Ten minutes of preparation makes the five screens honest and quick:
- Find the purchase invoice, or at least the purchase month, for the age bracket.
- Put the retail box, the charger that came in it, the battery that came in it and the kit bag in one place, and tick only what is actually there.
- List the lenses going with the body and check that each one appears on the Choose Lenses screen; note any that do not for the call.
- Clean the body and look at it under a lamp, then read the four grade cards and choose the one that still fits. The body test guide covers the eight checks that take about a quarter of an hour.
At pickup
The last screen is a quote for the camera as you described it. When it is collected, the body, the lenses, the original items and the grade are compared with what you selected before anything is paid; the glossary calls this on-site verification. A mismatch is discussed with you first, not silently deducted, and you can decline. When the camera matches your answers, the number you saw after the OTP is the number you are paid.
Quick answers
Can I see the price without the OTP?
The model page shows a body-only estimate. The full selling price, with lenses, accessories, age and grade included, is built only after the OTP, because that is the number the pickup is booked against.
I ticked the box by mistake and do not have it. What now?
Say so on the call or when the camera is collected. The box simply stops adding its amount; the body quote and the other items are not affected.
Does a newer bracket make up for a lower grade?
No. The grade sets the base and the bracket adds on top of it; they are not traded against each other. A young camera in Average condition is quoted as a young Average camera.
